Poland and Polish Discussion Group and Forum

Welcome to the original English language Poland and Polish discussion group board. This message forum is a place where English-speaking Poles, foreigners (expats) living in Poland, and anyone with a genuine interest in Poland can discuss and read the views of others concerning Poland. Subjects include: Polish news and current affairs; Life in Poland; politics; genealogy research; Polish culture and history; advice and tips on visiting Poland; Polish property and investment issues. The aim of our group is to increase awareness of wonderful Poland using the English language and allow and foster the honest debate and exchange of opinions on anything vaguely related to Poland and Polish - positive, negative and/or neutral! This discussion group is not an open-to-all public message board. Membership is by invitation only and therefore given that a fairly limited number of people have full access, it is more of a community blog than a straightforward forum. This application system was brought in to lessen the amount of spam and nonsensical and commercial posts made by casual visitors and off-topic and offensive posts left by a disruptive minority. To ask  a one-off question about Poland or respond to comments made on this board without a password just email us and provided it is at least halfway sensible, we'll post it on the board for all to see and current members will try to respond! All opinions and views expressed on this site are solely those of their respective authors and are not necessarily those of anyone else!

Donald Tusk has improved Poland

Other news.

Polish PM says he has improved country's standing in first 100 days

WARSAW, Poland (AP) - Poland has improved its standing abroad and patched up ties with its neighbors, the prime minister said Sunday, after two years of difficult foreign relations under his predecessor.

Donald Tusk's pro-business and European Union-friendly Civic Platform party swept the nationalist and conservative government of Jaroslaw Kaczynski from power in October elections. Tusk pledged to improve ties with Germany, Russia and the EU when he took power the following month.

Under Kaczynski, Poland blocked negotiations for a new EU partnership agreement with Moscow because of a Russian embargo on Polish meat, which Russia said it imposed because of health concerns. Kaczynski also stridently opposed a planned Russian-German pipeline under the Baltic Sea, bypassing Poland.

"Our most sensitive ties with our neighbors are today clearly better than they were three months ago," Tusk said during a 45-minute speech marking his government's first 100 days in office. "Poland, again, has become an understood and a predictable partner."

While Tusk also opposes the pipeline, he has struck a soothing tone toward Russia.

He traveled to Moscow earlier this month for talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, and his government has negotiated an end to the Kremlin's ban on Polish meat products.

Tusk said during the trip that Poland may soon lift its veto on EU-Russia talks.

On the domestic front, the prime minister reiterated campaign promises to bring an "economic miracle" to the ex-communist country.

Poland should belong to the "top tier of the 10 most developed countries in the European Union," Tusk said. "Step by step, year by year, we are going to patiently but with great determination strive for that."

Re: Donald Tusk has improved Poland

But his name doesn't seem at all Polish. English or maybe German, but, not Polish

Apparently it's Turkish for "Come back you big time crooks, you're OK now - we won't investigate you anymore"
