Poland and Polish Discussion Group and Forum

Welcome to the original English language Poland and Polish discussion group board. This message forum is a place where English-speaking Poles, foreigners (expats) living in Poland, and anyone with a genuine interest in Poland can discuss and read the views of others concerning Poland. Subjects include: Polish news and current affairs; Life in Poland; politics; genealogy research; Polish culture and history; advice and tips on visiting Poland; Polish property and investment issues. The aim of our group is to increase awareness of wonderful Poland using the English language and allow and foster the honest debate and exchange of opinions on anything vaguely related to Poland and Polish - positive, negative and/or neutral! This discussion group is not an open-to-all public message board. Membership is by invitation only and therefore given that a fairly limited number of people have full access, it is more of a community blog than a straightforward forum. This application system was brought in to lessen the amount of spam and nonsensical and commercial posts made by casual visitors and off-topic and offensive posts left by a disruptive minority. To ask  a one-off question about Poland or respond to comments made on this board without a password just email us and provided it is at least halfway sensible, we'll post it on the board for all to see and current members will try to respond! All opinions and views expressed on this site are solely those of their respective authors and are not necessarily those of anyone else!

Runaway Dutch boy found in Poland

Runaway boy cycled 600 miles

A teenage Dutch boy who ran away from home and headed to China with just £6 and a bag of crisps has finally been caught in Poland.

Police have been searching for 16-year-old Collin Baker since he set out by bike from his home in Holland six days ago.

He had pedalled unstopped some 600 miles from his home, into Germany and across Poland with only a book, a map, some crisps and a bottle of mineral water.

Residents in Przemkow, a town of 7,000 inhabitants in south west Poland, phoned the local police after discovering a boy who 'looked lost', and spoke no Polish, at a bus stop.

"It turned out that the boy had been cycling for six days and had covered 600 miles cycling along small country roads," police spokesperson Daria Solinska said.

Collin told the police he had left home for China because he did not like his mother's new husband.

He had only £6 with him, but said he was still determined to get to China by bike.

"I want to go there, because I've never been there," he said.

Police have taken him to a care centre for minors before deciding what to do with him.

The distance between Amsterdam and Beijing is 10900 miles.

The solution is clear: Either the mother gets rid of the paramour or someone should give Collin 103 Quid, 18 packets of crisps and 18 water bottles and let him get to his destination. He should get there well in time for the Olympics.

The mother wouldn't want to waste so much money on her boy.

Poor kid.
Dumb parents.

sounds like he needs to read more Enid Blyton. I'm sure the Famous Five could've done it ...

[or maybe a 16 y'old who thinks he can do that sort of thing needs a bit of extra help in his geography lessons at school]
