Message:   I had the pleasure of meeting and diving with Capt. Steve Gatto on this last trip to dive the Lake Erie 1690 Shipwreck. Steve has been tech diving and photographing shipwrecks for over 15 years and in my experience I would rate him as one of the finest underwater photographers that I have had the pleasure to work with. Steve has developed the technique by which he takes time-lapse photographs by setting up a tri-pod on the ocean bottom (in this case 170 feet) and making 30 sec. time exposures of his stationary subjects. His photographs, as you will see, are stunning.

I can tell you first hand, that after making over a half dozen dives to this wreck, including when Steve was there, you could NOT see the detail of the ship with the naked eye the way Steve has captured with his camera. Although the visibility at times is good down there, without powerful surface supplied lights you can only see certain portions of the ship at a time. His pictures will undoubtedly be critical in determining the identity of this “Mystery Ship”

Click the camera icon below for the pictures. When you get to the IMAC Images, click on "1690 wreck." Steve's pictures are the last four.
