Providence, RI (AHN) - Could an ancient English cannon found buried underwater be a clue to the existence of the so-called Lost Colony of the 1580s?
That's just one of the questions being asked by an underwater archaeologist reexamining a cannon found 24 years ago near Virginia's coast.
Also a maritime history professor at the University of Rhode Island, Rod Mather, told the AP he believes the 300-pound cannon, known as a "falcon" could be a remnant from when 117 English settlers mysterious left what is now North Carolina's Roanoke Island.
