A wreck off Bulls Bay on the South Carolina coast that for years has been known as the Anchor Wreck might actually be the remains of a Norwegian steamship that collided with another steamship at the turn of the 20th century.

The ship was carrying more than $250,000 worth of sugar from Matanzas, Cuba, bound for Philadelphia. But the Lief Eriksson first ran into the steamship named City of Everett from the Standard Oil fleet.

Little River diver Pete Manchee says the story fits. The Anchor Wreck has a valve stamped with the name of a city in Norway. And photos of the Lief Eriksson from maritime museums show it resembles the wreck that Manchee knows so well from many dives at the site.

While he says the truth may never be known for sure, he thinks the 100-year-old mystery has been solved.
