The huge front page headlines of today's Key West paper scream out- "Paradise Lost," and proceeds to tell the story of how huge parcels of waterfront property might have become Mel Fisher's treasured playground. Knowing Mel, If the city accepted his offer it truly would have become a real life- "Fantasy Island"... Here is an excerpt:
"The Truman Annex neighborhood of Conch-style homes and tree-lined streets could have been "Meldorado Village." In 1986, famed treasure salvor Mel Fisher made an offer he thought would end all offers as the city of Key West struggled to find a buyer for the Navy's abandoned 103-acre waterfront..." |
