One of the major perks of having been involved with the Mel Fisher Company for so many years is having the privilege of working with so many positive, talented and fun loving people. One person in particular who assisted me for so long in trying to keep everything together in what some times had been considered ‘controlled chaos’ of the highest order, was an attractive redhead (aren’t they all?) by the name of Morgan Perkins.
Morgan’s uncanny ability to Juggle TV interviews, documentary agreements, photo and video releases, and answering phones all while trying to prepare for a week long Mel Fisher Day’s Celebration was just a normal day for this ‘Super’ Public Relations Assistant. Oh, did I mention that she was also a major contributor as well as the Senior Editor of this online publication (IMAC)?
Even with all that responsibility Morgan wanted to do more. She wanted to get involved personally with those things that made Mel Fisher’s company famous… it’s dedication to recovering and preserving our past. At my great loss, Morgan moved over to the conservation lab to begin a career as a Conservator ‘par excel lance.’
Morgan had taken it upon herself to jump in headfirst and learn all she could about the history of the artifacts that she was preserving. She was also a gifted writer who used her literary skills to re-shape the way we look at our past by presenting the artifacts to us in a context that we could all understand. In doing so, these long forgotten pieces of our history took on a new and vibrant ‘lease on life,’ and the excitement it generated in the lab itself was contagious. Morgan’s contributions to the Mel Fisher conservation lab over the years have been invaluable and next to none. Her close friends have said that Morgan “Was the heart and soul of that lab” and freely admit, “…that she was truly responsible for making it the success it is today.” She will be dearly missed by all those friends.
Let’s all wish her and husband Joe the best life has to offer in their future endeavors and that they not forget our phone number- God speed Morgan & Joe, and thank you for all you have done!
