I'm and unhired Medical Assistant/(AAMA) CMA Exam Taken 6/2008
Hello. I am have been looking for an MA position since July 3rd. Finished school in June, 2008 3.8 GPA at an excellent community college program. I've applied for over 30 positions with 3 interviews so far. Thus far, it seems everyone wants experience!!!! Is anybody having the same experience??! I have experience -- my one month externship (not including my 6 months of clinical training in school). This seems kind of ridiculous to me since I also have 25+ years previous experience in the workforce as an HR management associate and an executive assistant and administrative secretary. And this is for a $12.00-14.00/hour with thus far no benefits!! I'm disappointed that Dallas, TX area physicians are such nimcompoops. |

That really stinks that no one sees your externship and clinicals as experience. I am still early in the process, but I am trying to figure out ways around the "no experience" thing. I am going to get brave and see if I can shadow or volunteer at my GP's or my cardiologist's offices..maybe even the local clinic down the street from my house. ANYTHING that I can put on my resume...I would have thought that your past experience would have helped you. Have faith! If you are good, someone will hire you!! jenny |

To be honest I have only recently started looking in earnest for a job. Until 6-28-08 my focus was, school, and that test. Like you, I have had 3 interviews and applied for a bunch of positions. The places I have applied are a big clinic, a large multifaceted nonprofit provider and one independent practice in the area here. Both these big places open jobs to everyone, and folks already in the system have priority, so you know where folks like you and I are at that point. Yes, it is a bit frustrating, I wish they would do an internal shuffle and then open jobs that really need folks like you/me. On the other hand more important to me is finding a good fit, just read Willow's recent posts.

Jeff I know what you mean! Finding a good fitting job is not the easiest thing. Sometimes it takes a bit of trial and error. Good luck to y'all in your search! Jenny |

I completly understand. I just graduated at the end of July. I have put my resume in at a few places. I just put in two more on Monday. So far I have not heard anything back. I am not certified yet because I don't take the test until September. I have to go out of state to take the certification test but I can drive 20 minutes to the next town if I want to take the test to become an RMA. Maybe I will have some luck after I take the test. I hope things work out for you. |
