Perhaps I am reading too much into your informational statement. I just can't stand it. I am so tired of hearing those opposed to abortion constantly tout adoption as the solution to this mess. I don't doubt that there are many people wanting to adopt. I think it is a great thing. Heck, the U.S. Government already gives a $10,000 tax credit to couples who adopt. But, the fact remains that out of the 118,000 thousand children available for adoption in 2005 only 50,000 were adopted and all of those 50,000 were not infants. My point here is that there are over 1,500,000 abortions each year. Now, if all of those terminated pregenancies were forced to term by the government I just don't see how even half of that number would be adopted. Using the most recent stats one would have to keep in mind of course, that even if unwanted pregnancies decreased in half due to the outlawing of abortion, then adoption would have to theorectically maintain about thre quarters of a million adoptions per year. The lines are not that long. So my overall point as discussed earlier in the posting is why does it seem that those who are most militiantly opposed to abortion are not the first to be in line to adopt. Again, I will submit examples such as James Dobson, Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, George W. Bush, David Davis, and the list goes on and on. It is a fallacy perpetuated by the hypocritical, I for one wnat no part of it. |
