Congratualtions on your son, Jama. That being said,your appeal to the emotional aspects of this debate by using a picutre of your unborn son is in my opinion ineffective. The thing about this debate is that peoples minds are rarely changed. I believe this is because religious reasons are the primary factor for those who adamantly oppose abortion.This leads to the point of my argument. I don't think it is o.k. to use government to enforce the religious ideologies of one group of people on another. When I replied to James' previous question with a No,it was for a reason. Personally I think abortion is a vile practice, but if one looks at it without religious discrimination then it is possible to see abortion as a medical procedure that is a choice between a woman and her doctor. The government does not make anyone have an abortion, why should it be o.k. for government to make a woman have a baby that statistically speaking she probably won't care for anyway. What about women who are atheists? They feel they have nothing to fear from divine judgment. Why should they have to adhere to a religious ideology? It seems to me that as a country we should focus more on the here and now. Let's focus on fostering and protecting the children who have been born. Let's leave medical decisions private.
You have made your decision to have a child and raise it. That is a beautiful thing. I applaud you for that. Even though I don't know you personally I suspect that you will be a good and responsible parent. We need more people like you. |
