The issue lies in weighing the rights of a baby with the rights of the mother. If it can be determined that a developing child has - or should have - the right to live, then we come down to that old adage, "your rights end where someone else's rights begin."
The government would not be forcing anyone to do anything. The woman still has a choice whether or not she wants to carry her child to term. The question is, does she want to face the consequences? Your same reasoning could be used to say that the government forces people to remain in poverty because it is illegal to steal.
My question remains: if not at conception, then when does life begin? |
