I think you are spinning. I tend to look at this in more realistic terms. When the government effectively takes away the liberty to make a medical decision and essentially makes that decision for you, they are forcing you. You view abortion as murder. Let's build upon that. If abortion becomes illegal and a woman aborts a fetus then the she would certaintly have to be charged with murder. In this case it would presumably be capital murder since it would be done knowingly and willfully with pre-meditation. Would you have me to believe that it would not be forcing a woman to carry a pregnancy to term if the consequences would be a murder charge and possible death sentence. Sure, there is a choice in such a scenario, but it is a simple one. Your reasoning sounds like.... you have this baby or else!! Obviously we view the act of forcing people to do something they may not want to differently.
I think this issue is much more complex than saying my resoning is comparible to the government forcing people to remain in poverty because it is illegal to steal. To me, that is not a valid comparison as it relates to my argument. I see your point, but it is flawed in my opinion. In my humble opinion life is the period between birth and death. Let's be realistic, your not a citizen in this country until you are born. Sad, maybe....but true. |
