I figured I would drop some common sense on kee-lo.
First of all, you say in your article that the government is profiting from his being detaining. That ISNT true, but because I am too lazy to find the exact stats I'll simply apply logic. Where would the government gain money in this? Nowhere. The drug trafficing into prisons you suggested may happen, but it is not the reason for their arrests and convictions. To say so would mean that law enforcement officers are working hand in hand with corrections officers to do this... but wait, according to you they are all ignorant hillbillys missing teeth, so either you are creating a false negative perception of their intelligence, or your entire logic is wrong on this one. So which one is it? Ive been to both carolinas, and I think its your logic, teeth are a rarity.
I think the better theory is to say that while the government is doing this, it isnt for personal profit, but instead due to their ignorance and stubborn nature. The "war on drugs" is an attack on a persons personal freedom to consume whatever he wants in his own time. There is nothing wrong with someone sitting in their basement killing braincells as long as they arent a drain or danger to society, so why attempt to regulate it? The fact is that by criminalizing drugs the government is creating new criminals, similar to the effect of prohibition.
The best solution, in my opinion, would be to legalize certain drugs and regulate them under the same conditions as alcohol. This would get rid of deaths from bad cooks, drop crime stats due to less people being considered criminals, take thousands of people out of jails who were previously taking cash away from other areas, and allow law enforcement to concentrate on the real problems in the world as opposed to people who are simply having a good time. |
