suitability

My husband and I have decided we want a somewhat smaller dog after our much-loved collie-german shepherd cross passes on. We are in our fifties and take turns working at our own business, so that someone would be able to be with a dog most of the time. We live in a smallish house on a large, treed lot and have close access to miles of trails and logging roads. We have no children at home, but may have grandchildren in the future. We are not afraid of grooming, as we have had a collie and a Samoyed in the past. Would a TT suit us, do you think?BRYH

Re: suitability

I think a TT would be great for you. My TT's love going for nice long walks but at the same time if I am having a lazy day at home they are quite happy to curl up and have a lazy day with me. TT's love people so will be pleased to see any visitors you have but they are not over the top and once they have said hello and had a fuss they will go away and do their own thing.

TT's are great with children and love the attention they get from them, if you are going to eventually have grandchildren I should socialize them with children from the very start so they get used to it. Not that I think TT's would ever harm a child as they are too soft and gentle for that, I just think that if they are not used to children from an early age they may just avoid any children introduced when they are older whereas the child may want to interact more with the dog.

I don't find the grooming of my TTs that difficult to be honest as long as I keep on top of it and don't let it matt up (although I do cheat and keep one of mine clipped reasonably short!

I would recommend a TT to anyone that was thinking of buying a dog. They seem to fit into most life styles and are brilliant fun. They can be quite stubborn and try to get away with things but if you have had dogs in the past I am sure you will have enough skills to show them who is boss. Although my TT's would argue that they just let me think I am boss!

Hope you go ahead and get a TT and you get all the fun and enjoyment from it that I get from mine.
