Loss of appetite
Hi There! We have a TT girl who is over a year old and is displaying some odd behaviour but also is now not wanting to eat. We are sort of blaming this on the fact we got another pup three weeks ago and she is feeling a wee bit put out!! The thing is, she loves the pup and has been quite happy to chomp away as normal until a few days a go and she is now only wanting to eat our food or small amounts of her own before walking away!! Other odd stuff she has been up to is: burying bones in the garden, digging at the carpet and rolling in poo! I am wondering if her nesting instinct is kicking in and she is a bit mixed up. The vet gave her an anti nausea jab in case she had an upset tummy but that bit seems to be ok, no temperature and she is still quite happy and chirpy in herself! She had a season about 3 months ago and has been a bit moody ever since but it has got to this point. So do we have a moody teenager, a jealous baby or a hormonal wreck????? Any advice would be great!!!!

Hi I'm no expert but I think she is displaying similar symptoms to having a phantom pregnancy (I had a Bichon once who did this) and is a little confused - having not long since had a season and then you getting a new puppy. Have you tried (a) feeding her away from the pup or (b) hand feeding her her own food? When my dog stopped eating the Vet told us not to give her our food and to just keep putting her food down as normal and that she would eat when she got hungry . Not easy. We gave ours her favourite food (chicken with a little garlic) and she couldn't resist! You said Vet has medically checked her so I think this might be the answer? Let us know how she gets on. Clair |
