Highlights and Lowlights of the Spring League

The Won Shot Wanderers FC have had a strange league this time round.

We lost great players - we recruited great players. We beat some great teams and we lost against some dismal teams, when it seemed we were doomed to lose we would bounce back and win it.

We had a league where we only played one weekend out of three and it seemed that we would never play football again due to the lack of fields and injuries.

A lot of new faces appeared and changed the team, but not at the cost of the players that came before.

One just wishes that some of the old faces had stuck about as that would have meant an unbeatable squad.

Before the Spring League started we had to say goodbye to a plethera of players that were not only an integral part of the Won Shots but were an integral part of this town. Niall McGovern, Matt McAteer, Owen Pearson, John Buckley, are amongst just some of those I could mention.

The spring season brought the delights of players such as Matt Hassen, Paul Anderton, Daniel Read, Mike Cavada and Ricardo Da Silva.

Without these new additions to the squad, after the old left, the Won Shots would really have been a three legged scabby donkey not fit enough for a beach ride at Blackpool.

Highlights of the Spring League include blinding displays of brilliance on the field by Igor, John Sheen and Dan Read.

Without Coman Dukes determination during this season the team would have found it difficult to lift their heads in times of need.

A big thankyou to the whole squad when we outplayed Real Busan in the best game of football that many have seen the WSW play

To Matt Symes and Jesse Wright, two guys who took to the game like ducks to water, you will both be sorely missed in the summer league.

To our injury prone keepers - Keepers Knees and Jericho - you kept us in it a number of times. Shame about the curse of the broken collar bones.

To our supporters thanks for everything you have done for us, both on the sidelines and off them.

UNFORTUNATELY for the Won Shots we have to say goodbye yet again to a number of star players who really made playing with the Won Shots worthwhile.

We will no longer see Igor, Jesse Wright Matt Symes, Quin Roney, Trey Watson, and Dave Anjema on the field. As ever this team morphs more than morph ever did.

However, the Won Shots have much to boast about for the forthcoming Summer League.

We have found a number of players who are willing to fit to the team and bring about a Summer League not to forget(please see our team roster).

We are sporting a new website and a new strip.

The Summer League will prove an uphill struggle not only against the weather but against our opposition.

But as ever the Won Shots will be there mixing it up with the best and maybe looking forward to a good few beers to boot.
