Weather sunny with very light southerly wind.
19 Boats took part and it was good to see 4 Toppers and a Laser2 sailed by Cadets. The very light conditions and relatively strong tide was going to make it very difficult for the toppers. Ian Lambert (RO) provided approx square coarse with a port tack reaching start, 2 lanes slightly favouring the windward boats. This however tended to pack the fleet together with the Squibs covering the slower boats. The Fireballs and Buzz used there superior boat speed to gain clear air and made the 1st mark well ahead. Byte and Matt in laser following with Ok not far behind having had a good start. The next leg was a beat out to sea which due to the strong tides and light shifty conditions took considerable patience, the 2 fireballs seeking to find the best position, with the Buzz taking advantage of this competition. Byte and full rig lasers Matt and C Humphries gradually drawing clear of the main bulk of the fleet. Jonty in led the Toppers finding himself able to get ahead of all the Squibs except Ralph.Charlotte in the 2nd Topper was very close however with an average lap time only 7 seconds behind.
The Buzz however was finding the conditions and coarse to its liking sailing big angles to make best use of its large Asymetric and in the end beat both
Fireballs for its best position yet- usually its most controlled position is upside down (sorry Tom ).
Despite lack of wind shore break ,high tide, added to exitement of beach landing but group assistance meant most landed with no real dramas.
