Hello April!!!
First, I would like to say that you pose a very valid question that I and others have pondered for quite some time. I always like discussing this with others so I too may proffer my thoughts. Here is my two-cents worth...
Everyday we see the "evidence" and "proof" of the existence of paranormal phenomenon. However, when there is evidence, there is always "proof" to the contrary. No matter what kind of paranormal event we can experience there usually is a logical, scientific explanation for it, whether we are aware of the explanation is another story.
In short, for belief in the paranormal to become commonplace it's going to take a lot of what has disproved it over the years...science.
By this I mean the discovery process must be continual and substantial. The paranormal realm will never be believed by the majority until science can provide unequivocal proof of its existence.
Liken it to the belief of the earth being the center of our solar system. Early Europeans believed Copernicus was insane when he offered such a theory. It took years for this thought to reach mass acceptance. The belief that we revolved around the sun was ludicrous because the Sun obviously revolved around us!!!
The paranormal can be seen in a similar light. It's going to take many years of scientific discovery to move the paranormal from fallacies and falsehoods to fact and fruition. My guess is that we will never see it in our lifetimes if we see it at all.
As far as what would it take to convince me??? The answer is nothing. In this current age my skepticism will not allow it. The paranormal evolution I speak of would need to take place.
I hope I shed some light on your topic!!!
