Away From The Numbers

All good things come to an end. Or so they say. AFTN has been around since 1989, first as a fanzine and then making the jump to a website and forum in 2003. We've been through the many ups and down at East Fife in those 12 years but policing the forum has become a giant pain in the ass in recent years. As such, we made the decision not to renew it when it expired.

The forum is no more and will remain as a locked archive until it is eventually deleted by the host. We're looking in to try to save some of the content as an archive.

This is not the end of AFTN though. The site will continue and will be revamped and return in its full glory for the start of the 2016/17 season. Maybe even sooner. There will be a comment sections and possibly even a new, registered forum. Check our Twitter (@aftnwebsite) for all the latest info and we'll also post in on the EFFC memories Facebook page.

Until then, have a last browse here, thanks for all your support over the years, and 'Mon the Fife.

Site Update - Who Remembers Murphy's Mob ???

The shops in Leven thread, coupled with doing a lot of historical research for the site and moving away from Scotland has had me on a bit of a trip down memory lane of late.

One such avenue my trip has taken me down is reminiscing about some of my favourite childhood TV shows.

And one of my all time faves is MURPHY'S MOB.

Remember it?

Well, whether you do or not, check out our new article all about it HERE. There's even some video clips of the show.

And not only that we also have an exclusive AFTN interview with one of it's main stars - Wurzel! AKA Lewis Stevens the actor.

Check it out and talk about your own memories of the show here.

And for all you fellow memory lane trippers, we have an article on Jossy's Giants to follow.

Enjoy

Re: Site Update - Who Remembers Murphy's Mob ???

What about WHY DONT YOU ? TISWAS and the DOUBLE DECKERS !!

Re: Site Update - Who Remembers Murphy's Mob ???

Superb stuff GoF! Murphys Mob was one of my favourite programmes back in the day and I even had the theme tune as my ring tone on my mobile untill recently. How on earth did you line up the intrview?

Re: Site Update - Who Remembers Murphy's Mob ???

Stalking pays off.

Re: Site Update - Who Remembers Murphy's Mob ???

So true!

I didn't know you had that as a ringtone Stew. That's really weird but in a good way (like me!).

Have had some other interviews lined up that haven't come off yet though (one was with Arnie and one with Craig Demmin), but you can't get them all.

But good news is that I've asked Kenny D to do an interview for the site once he's settled in a bit in Utah, so that should be a goer.

Re: Site Update - Who Remembers Murphy's Mob ???

I found out on imdb film database that Micky Dolenz of The Monkees was the director of Murphys Mob, is this true?

Re: Site Update - Who Remembers Murphy's Mob ???

Yeah!

I actually meant to put that in the article but forgot.

He didn't direct it all though, just some of the 54 episodes.

Remember Metal Mickey? That was a lot to do with him as well.

Re: Site Update - Who Remembers Murphy's Mob ???

Sorry about hijacking this thread, I found AFTN after googling Murphy's Mob. I recently interview Keith Jayne (Boxer Reed) and the feature can be found at http://simonstabler.blogspot.com/2010/06/not-so-plain-jayne.html i hope you enjoy it

Re: Site Update - Who Remembers Murphy's Mob ???

I can see why you like it GOF, a team stuck in the 3rd division, is there some correlation.
Was my fav TV show in the early 1980`s along with Grange Hill.

Re: Site Update - Who Remembers Murphy's Mob ???

Is that Mr Wankless back? Or are you some other goon?

Re: Site Update - Who Remembers Murphy's Mob ???

I appeared (very briefly) in the very first episode. If memory serves me right it was filmed at Vicarage Road. I tried to record it when it came on tv but set the wrong channel and managed to tape an episode of Playschool instead!

Anyone know if theres a copy of the first episode knocking around in some dusty cupboard somewhere??
