Re: tomorrows game

£8 isn't a bad price when you consider what the team has cost to build.

I'm going to Northwood v Barnet tonight, it's £8 too.

Northwood are the second best team in the world, a fine 3-1 win over full time Barnet this evening

Re: tomorrows game

Russian, Barnet's wanker chairman was on the five man FA Committee responsible for Luton Town's -20 points deduction even though Barnet FC clearly stood to gain from this (a disgraceful and flagrant flouting of good governance principals). I wouldn't go to the home game against Luton if I were you.

Re: tomorrows game

Given Luton Town's disgraceful pandering to Thatcher re ID cards and other anti-football stuff in the 80's they are getting their just desserts at long last. Enjoy the Conference in 09/10. Oh and it's a bit rich calling the Barnet chairman a wanker when Luton had a certain David Evans.

Re: tomorrows game

The ID scheme was introduced following the Millwall FA cup tie in 1985 when rampaging thugs smashed up our ground and attacked everyone and anyone (women and kids included).

After the game Bedfordshire Constabulary said that they would refuse to police any more games at Kenilworth Road (in other words no home games could be played) unless a ten foot high fence was erected around the playing area or a ban was imposed on away fans. The club opted for the latter.

In truth the Millwall riot was a culmination of several nasty football related violent incidents in Luton during the 80's. Unfortunately due to its geographical location and good transport links, Luton got more than its fair share of soccer violence at the time; teams from London and the midlands always brought along good away support together with their top boys to cause mayhem. We were regarded as 'northerners' by London clubs therefore deserving of a good kicking and 'cockneys' by midland clubs so incurring a good shoeing.

Something had to be done because locals were getting fed up of the running battles through the town every other saturday and a lot of people were beginning to turn against their own local team.

The ID scheme was the administration of the away fans ban and yes, Maggie did a deal with David Evans so that he would gain the safe seat of Welwyn North in return.

The total ban was draconian but the violence during the day caused by Millwall was also way over the top. During the afternoon they smashed up the shopping centre, attacked innocent shoppers and glassed drinkers in pubs. The images of the Millwall vermin smashing seats in the Bobbers Stand and fighting with police on the pitch were broadcast globally and sent out a message that a lawless state existed in the UK. Politically it looked bad for the Conservative government who were the original 'tough on crime' exponents and hence the deal done with Evans. (He later took all his money back when he left the club plus a high interest rate. As a result we had to sell the ground to the council in order to pay him. He is hated by Luton fans and is regarded as a c*nt.)

It was not the fault of the club or its fans that we suffered at the hands of Millwall scum and it was even more galling that Millwall FC received no reprimand from the FL following their fans behaviour (they sold the tickets to them).

I don't recall any Luton fans that I knew who ever agreed with a total ban and as a card holder, you were allowed to take up to three guests to games and a lot of Luton fans (including myself) got away fans into the ground on match days on this basis. That way decent fans did get to see their team play - but had to keep quiet.

As for the plastic pitch, we were not the only ones with one - QPR and Oldham had them too.

The Barnet chairman should not have sat on the committee that gave Luton a 20 point deduction because of a conflict of interest - his club stands to benefit from a club stranded at the bottom of the league Barnet are in - this is basic corporate governance.

Because of this, there will be a lot of trouble at the Barnet match when Luton play there. Nothing to do with me as I will be watching East Fife that day but I thought I would warn Russian if he was planning on going.

So get your historic facts right before you post such your messages. OK?

On the subject of getting the facts right - the russian follows Northwood and not Barnet or Luton, or have I misread the whole thread?
