Courier Preview Hamilton Match 240708

Hamilton should test Fifers
EAST FIFE effectively bring their competitive pre-season preparations to an end tonight when they welcome SPL new boys Hamilton Accies to Bayview.

The Fifers have had a mixed friendly schedule so far this summer, ranging from 10-1 victories over local amateur side Star Hearts to a shock 2-0 defeat at the hands of Spartans, but this evening’s fixture gives manager Dave Baikie his last proper look at his squad before Saturday’s Challenge Cup tie at Brechin.

“It’s up to the players to stake a claim for a place in the starting line-up,” he said. “It should be a good exercise and Hamilton have done well in recent years.”

Tonight’s clash should give home fans their first glimpse of new signing Stevie Crawford, after the former Raith and Dunfermline striker made the switch to his third Fife senior club earlier this week.

Crawford netted the winner on his debut in a 2-1 win over Forfar on Tuesday night and is expected to feature in tonight’s game.

The visitors are likely to field a mixture of first team and fringe players, with Accies’ sides having lined up against Albion Rovers on Tuesday and Dumbarton last night and teams due to travel to Hartlepool and Billingham this weekend.

The likes of former Wrexham midfielder Michael Carvill, Dutch defender Benjamin Pinto and former player Brian Carrigan are all on trial with Hamilton at the moment.

Another player who may feature is 19-year-old English striker Lucas-Jordan Akins, who signed from Huddersfield on a two-year deal on Tuesday.
