BRITTANIC ASSURANCE WOMEN’S 10K, GLASGOW
Amongst the 11,088 finishers at the Brittanic Assurance Women’s 10km road race in Glasgow the previous week local runners performed with distinction. St.Andrews member Susan Gourlay was due a big break-through after a fine performance in the Strathkinness/Blebocraigs race earlier in the month. The break Susan got, however, was not really the one she wanted finishing the race with a fractured metatarsal. Her time however, was still a respectable 52 minutes 06 seconds. Student Claire Hill competed in her first ever 10km clocking 53 minutes with another twelve members of the womens jogging group not far behind. On the hottest day of the year so far together with the ‘hill of doom’ mid-way through the course the group beat several thousand other runners.
Results: Susan Gourley 52.06. Claire Hill 53.00. Sandra Stewart 59.00. Mary Ross 62.00. Hilary Ritchie 62.00 Barbara Sibbett 65.00. Susan Bayne 67.00. Christine Revell 69.00. Joyce McIvor 69.00 Pam Robertson 7010. Davina Clark 70.00. Mary Yule 73.00. Ann McGroary 74.00. Linda Wood 80.00

DISTRICT TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS, MEADOWBANK
Fife AC under 17 athlete Andrew Kinnear, Gauldry, reached the top at the District Track & Field Championships at Meadowbank Stadium, equalling the high jump championship record with a fabulous mark of 1.90 metres. Andrew won the East high jump title as well as winning the long jump title with a personal best of 6.09 metres.
Chris Baily, Glenrothes, was unfortunately involved in one of the controversies of the meeting as the result of the Under 20 men’s 100 metres went to a photo-finish. Pitreavie athlete Jamie CouIl was given the verdict with the photo-finish giving a time of 11.102 seconds. Chris’ time was 11.103 with both athletes times rounded up to
11.11. Rarely do times have to be rounded up to the nearest thousandth, however, the resulting difference is still easily discernable to an experienced photo-finish operator. The results of the long jump however, was never in doubt with Chris taking the gold medal with a leap of 6.10 metres.
Further gold came Fife’s way in the under 15 section as Connor Hill, St.Andrews, continued his progress over 400m to win in a fine 56.38 seconds.

CATERAN TRAIL HILL RELAY
The 24 mile Cateran Trail Hill Relay brought further honours as Fife placed 3rd covering the 3-stage relay (run in pairs) from Blairgowrie to the Spittal of Glenshee Hotel in 3 hours 12 minutes. Nigel Fowler and Doug Robertson reached the first change-over in 7th after 6.5 miles before Chris Russell and Dave Anderson improved to 3rd over the 8 mile second stage. John McPherson and Andrew Evans held 3rd over the final 9 mile stage. Winners Dundee Hawkhill clocked 3 hours 7 minutes with EZ Carnegie the runners-up (3:10). The Fife veterans sextet won their section placing 7th overall in 3 hours 35 minutes despite the attractions of bird watching and viewing the scenery over the first stage by Messrs. Francis and Cation. The ladies team excelled to place 9th overall, first womens team, in 3 hours 54 minutes having reached the heights of 7th place over stage 2.
