Movies at Firewheel
My family will be boycotting this theater. Yesterday I took my family to go see the Chronicles of Narnia. I bought my tickets ahead of time online and picked them up at the box office when we got there. Then we went in and bought some snacks and stuff at the stand there before going on into the theater. As we went into the theater, I am greeted by an usher who informs me that they have over sold the show and if we would like we can sit on the floor in front of the front row. I didn't care to sit on the floor of a movie theater, so I had to go get in line to get my money back. As I wait in line I see that the management is trying to persuade people to go see some less popular movies instead of being reimbursed. Even hiding the plots from some and telling others that there is really no difference in a PG movie from a PG13 movie with mild language (the F word) and sexual innuendo. I think this may have been a planned thing to increase sales since they had accidentally oversold three other movies. After being presented with all the other movie choices that were available, I chose to just get my money back. Evidently, that’s not their policy. I did get some of my money back, but they kept three dollars and told me that part of the price was non refundable. So then asked if I could be refunded on the concessions that we had bought since we had bought them thinking we would be seeing a movie. My son had already been munching on his M&M's while we had been waiting in line. The manager told me that he would need to take the items so that he could ring up the refund. So he did this and then came back and handed me my refund and then threw the candy in the garbage right in front of my 6 year old son who at this point was starting to tear up. This guy could just have easily have given the candy back to the kid, but decided not to. He would rather just trash it. And that’s how we were left. I packed up the family, drove across town, stood in line to pick up tickets, stood in line to get refreshments, stood in line to get a refund, had candy taken from my kid, and it only cost me three bucks and an hour. And that’s how they left a paying customer after they made a mistake. So needless to say no one in my family, immediate or extended will ever spend another dollar in that establishment. I worked in customer service, and the way I was treated was inexcusable. |

Hey Scout, it looks as if I have found you again. I wonder how this forum will take off? |

I put this message everywhere. I think once the people out in Sachse get to know its here it might. |

I hope they enjoy this as much as Rowlett citizens do. Rockwall just doesn't seem to get very interesting, which in those words is just sad. You would think that a community would have an interest to talk with each other on a multitude of topics. Good luck to Sachse.

Hey Scout, you have to tell me how you got your forum name. I have been wondering if you are a Troop leader or what? And what is the 0820...badge # maybe?

A nickname from college, badge number from an old job, and nothing really exciting. Sorry for the mystery. |

I at least got the badge #. - You are missing some good action on Rowlett. I think the closer to the end of the year people tend to take on a whole new personality. Some people just crack me up. - I just love these little faces!!! |

As a former citizen of Rowlett who moved to Sachse to get away from the outrageous tax rate there for things the citizens got no voice in, I am doing all I can to support area businesses, which includes Firewheel Mall and the new movie theater in Garland as these will eventually aid development in Sachse. Your experience was unfortunate but not an unexpected "bump" in any business that has just opened. If it happens continually I may consider boycotting also, but would probably notify upper management so they could step in as necessary. Hopefully by now they have the kinks worked out and this won't happen again. |

Hey Red, maybe you can help with something. We have some friends that just moved to Sachse and I was wondering if there are any good restaurants around to take them to? They are like me when it comes to dinner, any suggestion will help.

There's not much in Sachse itself, so I would take a look at some of the restaurants opening at Firewheel Mall. Quite a variety there. The steak place on 78 is always busy which to me indicates it is a popular place, and it has a nice buffet, but I wasn't enthralled by it when we went. Just a comfortable place to visit with friends while having an "average" dinner. |

We visited that Steak Kountry YEARS ago and my hubby was not impressed so we have not been back. We used to go to the Country Junction all the time, is it still open and any good? They had a good breakfast too. I don't think Sachse has gotten many new restaurants in, I know they got a Sonic and a Chicken Express. In the new mall there a few good places, they really do need more though. TGIFridays is always good and they seem to stay busy. The Fish Market Grill is good. I'm ready for Pei Wei (PF Chang's lil sibling). Rice Box was decent chinese food, above your average chinese take-out. Red Robin is close by to the mall, in front of SuperTarget. If you go to RR on the weekdays between 12-7 and sit at the bar area (which includes the booths to the left when you come in) you can get 1/2 orders of appetizers at 1/2 price. The 1/2 order of nachos is enough to split for a meal. |

Good luck with your experience Red. I understand that not everyone will join me in my boycott and I wish you the best of luck. I did send emails (multiple) up to the corporate offices with no response even after the follow ups. The popcorn machine not working, or melted icees I could see as expected bumps in opening a new theater, but the way things went, with the on-site management, seemed inexcusable to me. That being said, they will no longer get my money and I'll warn those who choose to listen. Good luck Red.

If you go to Red Robin and want to try something other than a burger (not a salad eater myself but they are HUGE and everyone I know likes them) try the carnitas fajitas or the carnitas burger. It is pulled pork and really good with a nice lil kick. I have yet to eat more than 1/2 of my carnitas burger. The new Pei Wei is open and we already love it. I am so glad my kids like different foods.

Oh, another thing about Red Robin, if they tell you the wait is like 30 minutes or more, we have yet to wait as long as they say. Their service is MUCH FASTER than Chili's. And if the weather is nice you can sit outside on the patio at RR. |

Their service is MUCH FASTER than Chili's. - It's pretty hard to beat Chili's. Great food, great service and the beer is always cold.

I've come to prefer Red Robin over Chili's. The service is much more attentive and the food selection, IMO, is better. As for the movie theater, not a big movie theater person but our family likes the Studio Movie Grill. Now get one of those over here. PLEASE I heard the UA8 on Belt Line @ Brand in Garland closed??? They just redid the seating last year and we liked going there over Plano or Mesquite because of the smaller crowds. But then again we don't go enough to really help support a movie theater being open. |

We ventured to the new AMC theater this weekend to see the Pink Panther and had no problems. We actually arrived right when the movie started, walked up and bought a ticket and went in and found a seat w/o problems. Hopefully those were just some wrinkles that had to be worked out in the first few days. |
