SALVIA 5X Extract Preparation. SimpleSteps Tips&Tricks.

First you will need to get all your tools together. Here's what you will need to create 5 grams of 5X extract:

2 medium sized glass containers, with screw top lids. A pair of rubber gloves. A spoon, or scraping/stirring stick. A shallow saucer or bowl for evaporation. 30 grams, or just over 1 Ounce of salvia finely crushed. 91-99% Isopropyl Alcohol. A plastic bag, or sheet of cling syran wrap. A sheet of tin foil.

To begin, place 25 grams salvia into one of the sealable glass containers. Finely crushed almost into a powder works the best, as the solvent can pull a lot more Salvinorin out quicker & easier. Then mark the level of dried, crushed leaves reaches with a sharpee pen. Add solvent to that level and wait a few minutes. If the leaves aren't completely submerged after tamping down, or stirring a little with the spoon you should add some more solvent. You want it to be covered, but also not too much solvent.

Cover with the screw top lid, as it's very flammable. Don't store near flame, or heat. A Cool, dry, dark spot for at least 48 hours. A good trick is to grab the container by lid with fingertips. Twist your wrist back and forth, so leaf moves around, but doesn't stick to sides of jar. If you aren't dexterous, use the spoon to stir every few hours. Re cap, and wait for time to expire.

Strain the now dark green slovent into second empty jar. A trick to avoid straining, is tilt the jar at a 30 degree angle, so mouth of jar faces wall, not ceiling. Allow solvent to gather, and slowly pour off, this should keep sediment from leaving first jar. Quick and dirty method involves putting on rubber gloves. Opening a zip lock bag, then cutting a tiny hole in a bottom corner. Dump the contents of container into the bag, allow solvent to drain from plastic bag into 2nd container. Squeeze as much liquid out as you can without getting leaf in it.

Return leaf into 1st container. Repeat soaking process as already performed. Some people do a 3rd soak, but by now it's usually ready. Strain results again, this time put moist leaf on top of a sheet of cling wrap, or tin foil covered plate. Let dry, in case some salvinorin is left. Now evaporate the liquid down to the point where it looks like it will barely cover the left over 5 grams of unused salvia leaf. Put the evaporated liquid on the 5 grams of leaf into a saucer, or shallow bowl. Stir frequently as it evaporates to incorporate. Make sure it's completely dry before sampling. Waiting a full 24 hours, even after it looks done and dry as a good precaution. A 5 to 1 ratio is what has been created!

Re: SALVIA 5X Extract Preparation. SimpleSteps Tips&Tricks.

THANKS JED, for sharing your recipe tips & tricks... and to anyone who tries this themselves --- be advised that journeys with Jed's 5X extract have been THE MOST enjoyable and 'even-tempered' (for lack of a better term?) times I've EVER had with Salvia! Whatever he does/did with it -- he did it RIGHT.

I would call that 6x, since it has theoretically six times the concentration of salvinorin of plain leaf, but I'm not sure what the official(if there is such a thing) naming procedure is.

Or are you adjusting for 80% efficiency?

Re: SALVIA 5X Extract Preparation. SimpleSteps Tips&Tricks.

I'm thinking of having a go at this technique but kinda get a bit confused. So basically.. let' see if I get this right. You fill 25g of salvia leaf with isopropyl alcohol after shredding, just enough so the leaves sink. Then store for 48+ hours. Then filter the solvent onto another empty jar. Repeat 1-2 times.

Then... this is where I get lost. How exactly do you evaporate the liquid? Do you just let it sit there ('till it looks like it will bearely cover the left over 5g)? The entire last step is a bit confusing.. so what do you do with the wet 25g?

Hope I'm not too much of a boder
