Kava prep

Apologies to all for the tardy post. Should've put this up before the Kava went out. Thanx to JeD for the kick in the arse. This is but one method of preparing Kava kava for use. It is very close to the "traditional" way of drinking Kava.
The one item you should go purchase that will make your life easier is a nylon one gallon paint strainer, available at your local home improvement. Looks like a white hairnet.
O.K. here we go:
Measure out your Kava, I usually use about 6g per appx. 8 oz. water, which is about 1 level tablespoon..easy!
Place your strainer in the vessel of choice, coffee cup or coconut shell, etc, depending on how much you are making. Add the Kava.
Pour cold, cool, or warm water over the Kava, your choice. I always use cool to cold water.
Let this stand for a few minutes, 5 usually suffices. Begin dipping, massaging and squeezing the kava "ball". Continue this for another few minutes. After this, your liquid should look like muddy water. Excellent! This is what you want. Looks like hell, but don't be chicken. Give a good final squeeze to the Kava "ball" getting all the good stuff out. Place the remains aside, grab the cup and Chug-a-lug. If you are unable to finish the amount in one go, make sure you give the cup a swirl before you go again. What you have is a suspension of Kava in the vehicle of water, so it will settle if given time. The spent Kava ball can be used again, but the result will not be as "muddy". I always do a second wash...you know...waste not...
So there you have it...enjoy, and remember you can always adjust the quantity of Kava up or down, depending. Eight oz. of water can support up to about a 10-12g suspension, if you want to use more, add more water to the equation.
