Eqso Amplifies more White Noise on RF Links

Hi,

I just reconnected my Philips converted PMR set(M296) back up for use on the Gateway and monitored the received signal from a local Station.

This station received poor reports that his signal was too weak into the gateway.

I couldn't understand this as his signal that i listened to on the off air speaker was about 80% quieting.

Eqso appears to make signals a good deal weaker than they actually are.

Now the M296 has no audio tailoring, so what you put in is what you get out.

Ok some more expensive Transceivers out there may do a better job but who wants to use a £1000 rig running at least 16 hours a day. I certainly wouldn't.

Alas i have a cure with a bit of experimenting a simple idea was to tailor the Audio to suit the system by putting .01uf capacitor across the Speaker or audio out line on the Radio.

You will have to try several values between .01uf and .47uf to get the right results.

Be careful not to go too high as this will introduce bass.

This gives the effect of cutting the high frequencies thus cutting out less of the white noise present on slighly weaker signals.

You can try this on any Radio.

N.B Dont forget to Qsy to an empty Room when you are doing these Experiments.
