NORMAN’S LAW HILL RACE, LUTHRIE
Fife AC junior hill internationalist Graham Bee, Kirkcaldy, celebrated his first race in the senior ranks with victory at last Saturday’s Norman’s Law Hill Race from Luthrie.
The traditional follow your own route back from the summit to the finish was abandoned due to the presence of pregnant cows in the fields - the local bovine population didn’t miss out altogether though with the thrill of the normal start and finish alongside the residents of Lower Luthrie Farm cow-sheds.
Over an out and back 5.5 mile route Bee headed the sixty-three runners from the start and although closed down slightly ascending the 700ft summit still had forty-five seconds to spare over 2003 winner Chris Russell, Glenrothes, at the finish. Bee clocked 34 minutes 39 seconds with Russell in 2nd (35.24 while 1999 winner Dave Anderson, Milnathort, placed 3rd, first veteran (36.16).
Carnegie Harrier Sarah Legge was a clear womens winner placing 20th overall in 42 minutes 04 seconds ahead of Eilidh Wardlaw (City of Edinburgh) in 24th - 44.05. Fife AC juniors Andrew Evans, St.Andrews, 10th (39.59) and Jennifer Kibble, Balmullo, 27th (44.22) excelled to take the junior awards.
Fifteen runners contested the junior 1.5 mile race won by Jacob Dobson (Kinross RR) in 11 minutes 06 seconds ahead of Richard Murdoch (Unatt) - 11.18, and Finlay Mitchell (Dundee Hawkhill) - 11.42.
