A Further Response to Randy Scott on New Information in Tomorrow's THRESHER Posting
Now approaching its final form, “WHY THE USS THRESHER (SSN-593) WAS LOST” will provide significant new information on the events that resulted in the tragedy, and on the results of the continued exploitation of the SOSUS data that provided most of what we now know about that event; however, this will be a long technical discussion that will require careful reading. Persevere and you will find information not previously available at any security level.
Whether such information is of interest or is retained by active-duty personnel for whatever future application may arise is up to the reader.
George Miller and the writer always followed the precept that whatever could be derived from an analysis should be derived even though it had no current application because its potential future value could not be assessed in advance.
In fact - upon reflection – this suggestion may have more practical value for our “community” than the THRESHER posting for it was surprising how many times such pieces of apparently “ancillary” information were later proven to have great value.
