Re: Marcia Wallace

You beat me to it Ted, but it is a sad report indeed. I grabbed a clip from the same scene, but I chose to post a more recent shot of Marcia along with the circumstances surrounding her death instead.

I never knew she was a recurring voice of a Simpson's character, but then, I lost interest in the show after its brilliant first season.

On October 25, 2013, Wallace died due to complications from breast cancer, with which she had first been diagnosed back in 1985. Staff on The Simpsons had reportedly been aware of her illness. Showrunner Al Jean said, "I was tremendously saddened to learn this morning of the passing of the brilliant and gracious Marcia Wallace." Yeardley Smith, who voices Lisa Simpson, tweeted, "Heaven is now a much funnier place b/c of you, Marcia."The British press noted her passing, quoting Ricky Gervais as tweeting "R.I.P the brilliant Marcia Wallace." The show announced her "irreplaceable" character, Edna Krabappel, will be retired.

Re: Marcia Wallace

Sad to hear it. Actually, I don't think she had a cut scene in "Murder By The Book" I think what happened was the people at Universal gave her a credit for the wrong episode because she has no credit in "Lady For Waiting" where she does appear.

Re: Marcia Wallace

Thanks for your thoughts, Eric. It's entirely possible that the credits got mixed-up, as you suggest -- based on Levinson & Link's description of how the initial rush of filming involved multiple episodes being made at the same time. At least, in Columbo's case, there was little or no risk of confusion about which costume he should wear, from scene-to-scene

Re: Marcia Wallace

I've mentioned it before, but I always wonder if the red-haired woman you see from the back (in the crowd that's gathered by the lake after Lilly's "accident") could be Marcia. The hairstyle looks like hers in LADY IN WAITING and some of the earliest BOB NEWHART episodes. That way she would be in the episode in a "token" way.

I'm really sorry to hear this. I've always been a great BOB NEWHART SHOW fan (and a SIMPSONS one), and I just saw her in one two nights ago. I have the first and fourth seasons, but I wish I had them all.

Re: Marcia Wallace

Hi everybody.

Like Grant, I think in "Murder by the book" Marcia Wallace is the red-haired woman in the crowd after Lilly LaSanka's death. Didn't she speak? I think she did (at least, I remember a female voice in that scene). Maybe someone could recognize that voice.

Regards.

Re: Marcia Wallace

I was like the world's biggest fan of the old Bob Newhart Show, and I really enjoyed Wallace's sarcasm toward her bosses. Another great supporting talent gone, sigh.
