"Murder By Natural Causes"

Reads like it should have been a Columbo episode, doesn’t it?

Well, there's a very good reason being the title of a made-for-TV movie from 1979 starring Hal Holbrook, Richard Anderson, Katherine Ross and Barry Bostwick. I’ve looked all over for a copy of it, but to no avail. It’s too bad, because it really is a marvelous piece of work, and you'll note there's a very good reason for that too.

The play that "Gil Weston" is appearing in is "Prescription: Murder", an actual play from 1962 written by William Levinson and Richard Link, notable for introducing their most famous creation, Lieutenant Columbo. In the original play, Lt. Columbo was portrayed by the famous character actor, Thomas Mitchell in what would be his last acting role.

Re: "Murder By Natural Causes"

Thanks for this info! I'm watching it on youtube, and it really has the feel of a lost Columbo episode.

Re: "Murder By Natural Causes"

I got this some years ago as a DVD, and am glad to learn that it is now on Youtube. Definitely worth a watch!

Another Levinson & Link goodie: "Guilty Conscience," starring Anthony ("Hannibal Lecter") Hopkins and Blythe ("Etude In Black") Danner.

And another Levinson/Link classic TV movie that I got at about the same time: "Rehearsal For Murder," starring Lynne Redgrave and Robert Preston. All clever stories with great acting and Levinson/Link at their best -- check 'em out, wherever you can!

I'm watching now on YouTube, thanks for the tip! Looks very promising!

An official release on DVD was exactly what I was hoping to find, but since someone thoughtfully uploaded it to You Tube, that will more than suffice (I never thought of looking there). Interestingly enough, it was just posted in September of 2013. Thanks guys!
