I know there is an existing poll indicating our favorite episodes.
I am wondering, does anyone know of how some of these episodes were rated by Neilsen or other poll organizers? It would be fascinating to know what the public liked vs ourselves. Such variables as time slot, competition, guest star, etc may have been a major influence.
As to why I care. In the late 70's or early 80's I remember sitting in an attorneys office on Santa Monica Blvd and thumbing through newspapers when suddenly I saw Variety. The first page had the Neilsen weekly top ten ratings. To my shock Columbo was 3rd.
All this time I thought only a select few cared or even understood the beauty of the show. But to see it ranked that week 3rd nationally really pleased me. Made me think 'ah this show is going to be renewed and renewed"
Yes, I just searched Neilson ratings on Google. There a quite a few sites that give ratings for the Columbo years, some by the week. Its depressing to recall so many excellent shows, compared to the trash that is on today. Or are trash at least in my opinion.
I am a big Columbo fan and saw the first runs, but I don't remember what day of the week they were aired. I think Columbo was part of the NBC Saturday Night Movie rotation. A few of the lists do not list Columbo but NBC Sat Movie.
