Away From The Numbers

All good things come to an end. Or so they say. AFTN has been around since 1989, first as a fanzine and then making the jump to a website and forum in 2003. We've been through the many ups and down at East Fife in those 12 years but policing the forum has become a giant pain in the ass in recent years. As such, we made the decision not to renew it when it expired.

The forum is no more and will remain as a locked archive until it is eventually deleted by the host. We're looking in to try to save some of the content as an archive.

This is not the end of AFTN though. The site will continue and will be revamped and return in its full glory for the start of the 2016/17 season. Maybe even sooner. There will be a comment sections and possibly even a new, registered forum. Check our Twitter (@aftnwebsite) for all the latest info and we'll also post in on the EFFC memories Facebook page.

Until then, have a last browse here, thanks for all your support over the years, and 'Mon the Fife.

Were you able to give it any advice?

Re: FORFAR GAME - OFF

What a waste of a footballing Saturday!!!

Following a late morning inspection, tomorrow’s fixture against East Fife has been called off with over half of the Station Park surface still icebound, this despite a rise in temperature. It is likely however that it would take around three days of similar temperatures to melt the ice and the frost which is several inches deep.

Amazingly the Loons could be in for a further blank Saturday through no fault of their own. If Stenhousemuir triumph over Stranraer in the their fourth round Scottish tie, they will then play Motherwell on February 5th in round five, the day that Dick Campbell’s men are currently scheduled to travel to Ochilview on league business.

Re: FORFAR GAME - OFF

given that forecasting is not an exact science, why not call it off tommorrow morning?

Re: FORFAR GAME - OFF

Pretty poor show by the Loons. Did they bother to check the forecast for the week and make an effort to get rid of the snow off the pitch? If they had done so the rise in temperature would surely have cleared the ice by now.

They obviously can't be that bothered about losing more income and having their team inactive for yet another week. And if they were sure the game wasn't going to go ahead why did they turn down our offer of a venue switch?

I thought we were amateurs but at least we make the effort when there is a chance of the game going on. I would award a 3-0 win to us frankly and tell them to get the finger out in future.

Re: FORFAR GAME - OFF

Forfar did not turn down the offer, look at the balance of fixtures o/s and ask yourself the question, "Later in the season do we really need another 'extra' away fixture added to those to be rescheduled and already scheduled"? - your answer is hopefully in the same train of thought as the East Fife Mgt team

Re: FORFAR GAME - OFF

If any of you lot thought for a moment this game was going to be on then you are clearly deluded.
We'll be lucky to see any more football before mid February at the earliest unless a miracle occurs.

WINTER BREAK is essential. All we have to do is convince the powers that be within fortress Hampden.

Something tells me we'll be status Quo for many years to come under that shower of blazer wearing old useless incompetent farts.

When would you have a winter break though? November to March?

Not necessarily. Even if it were January and February thats still going to soak up most of the bad weather. If we got hit in December then so be it. Then the games are resheduled till better weather like they are now.
Its utter madness playing football in January and February. Even if the games are on who the hell wants to freeze their balls of watching a scrap in sub zero temperatures? Crowds are down over the winter anyway even if the games go ahead.

What if you had a completely mild, playable winter break, then the bad weather hit afterwards?

Hey, in life you take your chances.
History dictates the coldest period is between January and February. If its mild then so what? We, the players, staff and grass still have a break and we have lovely uninterupted summer football to look forward to.

Re: FORFAR GAME - OFF

AAhh but what if the hole in the ozone layer got bigger and we had monsoon weather in the summer then games would be off due to flooding so no uninterupted summer football!

Maybe you should try reading and UNDERSTANDING Posts.

"forecasting is not an exact science"...... so when the forfar dude writes "It is likely however that it would take around three days of similar temperatures to melt the ice".....that is not fact, it is an educated prediction.

My point is, why not take that educated prediction with the best information.......ie that state of the pitch tomorrow morning?

That way, you are giving the game every chance of going ahead - just incase the overnight thaw is sufficent to get the pitch playable....AND..... you are doing so with enough time so as not to impact those traveling to the game - SIMPLES!

Care to answer that hoogers?

This looks like being the only game off in the country tomorrow so you are clearly talking garbage.

I repeat what I said earlier in that Forfar Athletic have made bog all attempt to get the game on. They knew the milder weather was coming like the rest of us and if they'd bothered clearing the snow off the pitch the thaw would done the rest by now or certainly by tomorrow lunchtime. Fully how from Dingwall to Peterhead and all points south there will be football on tomorrow but somehow not in the weird arctic microclimate that is Station Park.

Useless country tossers.

Re: FORFAR GAME - OFF

Even without an Un-educated guess i dont think "It is likely however that it would take around three days of similar temperatures to melt the ice" is going to turn into just over 15 hours.
I was mearly trying to help inform fans what i knew that game was off.
Forfar athletic are mearly trying to save wasting supporters time and plan an alternate weekend.
hope this okay Mary_BalE.
SORRY NEXT TIME I WONT BOTHER POSTING.

Balls to you. Are you seriously saying a winter break is not a good idea?
You are short sighted and deluded regardless of how many games are on tomorrow!!

Re: FORFAR GAME - OFF

Only game off is at Forfar as predicted. We do not need a winter shutdown we just need some clubs to make more of an effort to get their games on.

Oh, and balls to you too mate.

Re: FORFAR GAME - OFF

Pessimist - trivia question for you:, over the last 10 years, during the months november thru february, what percentage of scheduled games in Scotland have gone ahead?

Once you've worked that out, do you still think a winter shutdown is merited?
