Away From The Numbers

All good things come to an end. Or so they say. AFTN has been around since 1989, first as a fanzine and then making the jump to a website and forum in 2003. We've been through the many ups and down at East Fife in those 12 years but policing the forum has become a giant pain in the ass in recent years. As such, we made the decision not to renew it when it expired.

The forum is no more and will remain as a locked archive until it is eventually deleted by the host. We're looking in to try to save some of the content as an archive.

This is not the end of AFTN though. The site will continue and will be revamped and return in its full glory for the start of the 2016/17 season. Maybe even sooner. There will be a comment sections and possibly even a new, registered forum. Check our Twitter (@aftnwebsite) for all the latest info and we'll also post in on the EFFC memories Facebook page.

Until then, have a last browse here, thanks for all your support over the years, and 'Mon the Fife.

transfer window

hopefully we can make some signings before monday night t/window in defence would really help.

Re: transfer window

Graham Bayne has come back from injury and is still training with Dunfermline despite being a free agent. Has scored goals wherever he has played and leads the line well. Stays in Fife (Muchty ?) he'd be a good signing on a pay as you play basis. I know our defensive frailties need addressed as a priority but I think he would give us a better option up front. Did he work with Robbo at Inverness ??

Re: transfer window

Please sign defenders....please,please,please,left back first then clear every last one of them out,I cannae take anymore, its fucking pitiful.

Re: transfer window

Top goalscorers in the league but second bottom and you want another striker. The league doesnt lie. We need defenders and fast. They make the same mistakes every week. They are losing us so many points. We have been in front 6 times i tjink and lost. We have to score at least 4 to get a point at least. Id hate to be a forward in our team working their balls off and come away seeing smart and ovenstone continually lose us points

Re: transfer window

the fife wouldn't be in the 2nd if it wasn't for jay smart so cut yer slander 'big g' - fucking idiot.

Re: transfer window

Smarty is a good honest defender when he has someone in beside him directing/organising him, that's why the defence was improving with campbell in beside him and why he did well in the 3rd div with tweed next to him.
Make him the leader in the back 4 and we are hopeless, lose bad goals and why he lost his place earlier in the season.Left back is a real problem that has to be sorted soon.
Hopefully in this window

Re: transfer window

at the end of the day. 14 goals conceded in the last three games you dont need to be a rocket scientist to know where the problems are .

Sooooooooo not true you dick Smart doesnt play on the Left.

Re: transfer window

Soooooooooooooonot true you dick Smart doesnt play on the left.

Re: transfer window

I cannot recall smarty making any glaring errors at the livingstone game.I do remember us losing two goals down the left side 1& 4.We also lost a bad goal down the right side 3.The worst position in the team is clearly the left back position.Upfront I do not think hyslop gives us enough goals and is not mobile enough.

Re: transfer window

I fucking know where smart plays you twat,my point was he is a good defender who just needs someone beside him but the left back is our main problem so read the post dickhead.

Re: transfer window

Couldn't make the game yesterday but having just watch the highlights on Livi tv, it is glaringly obvious and has been for weeks that we desperately need a left back. Ovy was posted missing for the first and his tackle on 'thin air' for the second was the sign of a tiring player who is extremely low on confidence. Hopefully this can be remedied before the close of the transfer window. Durie didn't exactly cover himself in glory at the third goal either. The problem at the moment is that Robbo doesn't really have many options at the back.
Against Forfar I'd go with a back four of Muir, Smart, McGowan and Durie with Young replacing Div in the middle of the park

Re: transfer window

Just watched the highlights as well, agree with a few posts earlier as well in that don't think anyone at the back covered themselves in glory, looked like smart dived in to a tackle for the first as well, durie poor defending for the third and ovy missing the basics of defending in staying on your feet and making it tricky for the forwards but in his defence he isn't a left back and has been a stop gap for the position but is now being found out big style

Re: transfer window

Smart is a liability and has been for a long time. Completely found out at this level. Guy looks as though he`s giving his all but with two left feet he was never going to offer consistency. Thanks J but time to drop down a league.
A complete new competent defence is needed pronto if we hope to stay up. We nearly went down last season ffs.

Bollocks about Smart.

Best stopper we've got. Didn't have a great game yesterday, granted. He was our only player who didn't struggle against Aberdeen (and Rangers at East End). Not a sign of someone needing to drop down a level. Also wins everything in the air. Needs someone alongside him.

It would help if our midfield didn't have a gaping hole in it every week - putting the defence under constant pressure from the off. Put Young (a box to box workhorse) in with Sloan - it's obvious.

We need a left back and another centre back (with Smart)

Re: transfer window

With Campbell out for a few weeks yet it might be time to bite the bullet and reshape. Unless we get someone new in we are going to have to live with what we have.
I'd have a think about playing five at the back with using our two players with the most pace as wing backs to compensate for losing a midfielder.
The down side to this is we don't have an obvious leader in three centre backs. Someone needs to call the shots (probably Div). It's not an ideal scenario but worth a try.

Brown

Durie Muir Smart Ovenstone McGowan

Linn Young Sloan Johnston

Crawford

Re: transfer window

Made a mess of that. Can't leave out Sloan. Push Bobby Linn into a free role behind the striker.

Re: transfer window

0venstone does not justify a game in the middle of defence either.

Re: transfer window

I reckon Fifer's revised xi would've taken 3 points yesterday. Defence improved, midfield improved.

Great shout. Strong, goalscoring, attacking player. Was one of the Pars top payers before he got injured. I'd thought the same 'lets go for him' when I read he was looking to return after injury.

Ps, he was with Robbo up there. Didn't know he was a free agent. I know his sister, just texted her asking questions. She thinks I'm wanting to be his agent or some shit -haha

Re: transfer window

Can't believe people are questioning Smarts ability as a centre half. He's been quality for us the past few seasons!

The reason we got beat was down to our left and right backs inability to defend properly. The amount of space the livingston wingers had was incredible! Durie isn't second division standard and neither is ovenstone.

Re: transfer window

totally agree with that fact it's obvious that smart plays better with an older experienced defender next to him...
kevin james, is still without a club and as far as i know hasn't retired, was brilliant for ayr against us in the past and just the kind of level headed player we need at the back.

still don't understand why we didn't go for phil mcguire when he was on trial at the club either!

Re: transfer window

The scotsman says that Stevie crawford signed for Cowdenbeath last night.
