Away From The Numbers

All good things come to an end. Or so they say. AFTN has been around since 1989, first as a fanzine and then making the jump to a website and forum in 2003. We've been through the many ups and down at East Fife in those 12 years but policing the forum has become a giant pain in the ass in recent years. As such, we made the decision not to renew it when it expired.

The forum is no more and will remain as a locked archive until it is eventually deleted by the host. We're looking in to try to save some of the content as an archive.

This is not the end of AFTN though. The site will continue and will be revamped and return in its full glory for the start of the 2016/17 season. Maybe even sooner. There will be a comment sections and possibly even a new, registered forum. Check our Twitter (@aftnwebsite) for all the latest info and we'll also post in on the EFFC memories Facebook page.

Until then, have a last browse here, thanks for all your support over the years, and 'Mon the Fife.

Tonight's Game

A great result and a good solid team performance. We were under a bit of pressure early on, 4 Ayr corners and then a really good save from Brown low to his left.Ayr started the game at a fast pace and were passing the ball well but we matched them and looked more dangerous on the break. Rode our luck at times and Ayr looked good box to box but the final touch just wasn't there. However we started to get a grip of things in the middle of the park and we defended from the front putting pressure on the Ayr backline with Wallace outstanding. Scored after 30 mins and again two minutes later. Ayr rallied but couldn't find a way past our defence.
Two goals up at half time still doesn't guarantee a win however we got a third 5 mins into the second half, 15 mins later a fourth.....must be dreaming! All good goals.
Shut up shop, Ayr well beaten. Bobby Linn limped off (subbies limp?)Wallace running his socks off, forcing defenders to make mistakes right to the final whistle.
Could be just what we need, quick, fit, good skills and two good goals, gets my vote.
Well done lads and thanks for an entertaining game

Wasn't there tonight but I can honestly say that I can't remember a more impressive or unexpected result in all the time I've supported the mighty EF!!
Our next 4 are very winnable and we could, COULD be 5th after them. MON THE F'ING FIFE!!

Re: Tonight's Game

Superb result!!! Lets hope Robbo can continue the good work. Looks like he has brought in a couple of good players, in Park and Wallace. Hopefully the usual lot will get off his back and let him get on with the job in hand!!

Also a 4-0 at Forfar in 1980 and 4-2 in 2001.
Weekend unexpected goal-fests away from home include Clydebank (4-0)in 1997 and Queen of the South (4-1) the following year.

Division Two: Ayr United 0 East Fife 4

Feb 24 2011

EAST FIFE boss John Robertson watched on-trial hit kid Ryan Wallace gun down Ayr with a super double then promised him a deal. The 20-year-old former Hearts and Airdrie striker did much of the damage to promotion-chasing Ayr with a goal in each half.

Veteran Jim Hamilton fired the opener in a scoring spree that was finished off by Matthew Park.

Robbo said: "I've spoken to Ryan and he loves it here so I'll be giving him a deal.

"I worked with him at Hearts, where he still holds the record of the youngest player to feature in the first team - at 16.

"Maybe things happened too quickly for him when he was young and he had one or two problems at Airdrie. He's got great mentors to learn from here in Jim and Steve Hislop. I hold the responsibility to kick-start his career."

Third-top United had needed a win to keep up the heat on Livingston but were left trailing the leaders by 13 points, albeit with three games in hand.

They started brightly but once Hamilton hit the opener the home side could not get a foothold on the game. Furious boss Brian Reid promised a radical revamp of his team for Saturday's visit of Brechin.

He said: "I've never seen us as poor defensively and there will be changes.

"It was an unacceptable performance. We're third top not third bottom yet looked as if we could have played all night and not scored.

"We had a great home record but have now lost seven goals in our last two games here."
