As Expected: Worst Case Nuclear Emergency in Japan

All four reactors melting, containments breached, and the wind has shifted to the southwest toward Tokyo. I feel so sorry for the Japanese people. They need our prayers and all the help the world can provide. Where is that Big Horse China these days?

Re: As Expected: Worst Case Nuclear Emergency in Japan

***FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE***
by Commander, Naval Forces Japan on Monday, March 14, 2011 at 8:38pm

At approximately 0700 local (Japan) time, 15 March 2011, sensitive instrumentation on USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73) pier-side in Yokosuka, detected low levels of radioactivity from the ********* Dai-Ichi Nuclear Power Plant. While there is no danger to the public, Commander, Naval Forces Japan is recommending limited precautionary measures for personnel on Fleet Activities Yokosuka and Naval Air Facility Atsugi, including:

A. Limiting outdoor activities.

B. Securing external ventilation systems as much as practical.

These measures are strictly precautionary in nature. We do not expect that any United States Federal radiation exposure limits will be exceeded even if no precautionary measures are taken. We are continuing to analyze the situation and will update you as we learn more.

If anyone wants to see what submarine nukes think of this unfolding story, this is a pretty good source: http://bubbleheads.blogspot.com/

Re: As Expected: Worst Case Nuclear Emergency in Japan

Chuck - got to see/hear about the Blue Ridge last night on CNN. Had no idea your son was in the Navy. Am I correct in assuming that his wife Sheri (Ulp) would be the daughter of Rick Ulp that was in Bermuda, sometime between 74-77?? I do believe he had a daughter named Sheri. Where are you living now? Ever hear from Rick (where is he) and how about John Keith's whereabouts?? Was looking at some pics of him on the IUSS website with Jane Wright (foot in cast). Dee

Re: As Expected: Worst Case Nuclear Emergency in Japan

Irv,
Sheri is Rick's daughter. He retired and he and Pat live in Florida. I live in Manteno, Il 65 miles south of Chicago. Brian is a LCDR and is on Blue Ridge as an IWO.
