Chuck - took a look at all the photos, story, videos, etc. on that website. Looks pretty bad. Would not want to have been on that section of highway when it collapsed. I didn't get all the details as to what caused it (rain??) . Pt Sur was the only west coast NAVFAC that I was not stationed at. Only there once on inspection/vistit with Commodore Cox (COSP)- I think in 1980 or 81. Drove down from CVB. Each had its own unique setting.
