I did two tours on SNI ten years apart. In '81 I taught an Oceanography class for L.A. Community college program for the civilian and Navy persons working on the Island. Part of my instruction included the special environment of SNI...and noted that our "business" would definately have an adverse effect on it's ecology. I am very happy to read that some positive things have been accomplished since our leaving.
I wish we could say that about all of our deserted Navfacs.
