Yes, I knew “Mac” at NavFac Centerville Beach 1969-71 timeframe. I had the honor of officiating at his initiation to the rank of U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer (STC). We held the ceremony at his favorite “recreational spot” the Loleta Inn in Loleta CA (just a few miles north of Ferndale). I remember we had the chef “char-grill” an actual “leather boot” for his entrée – the rest of us had prime cut “angus beef” steak – at his expense.
His obituary is correct, he was well liked by all and he will not be forgotten. My thoughts and prayers are with Mac’s family. May memories of a better time help ease your pain.
