ACTION: NAVFAC POINT SUR - National Register of Historic Places ??

The consulting firm 'Past Consultants' is working with a local non-profit organization (Central Coast Lighthouse Keepers) to determine eligibility of the NAVFAC Pt Sur SOSUS station in California to be placed on the National Register of Historic places. Pt Sur is still operational (training only) under the Navy's Post Graduate School at Monterey, CA.

Past Consultants is trying to locate any officers, enlisted men and women, and civilians who served at Pt Sur between 1958 and 1984 when it was de-commissioned. They would like to interview individuals who can give them information about non-classified aspects of daily life and work routines on the base and in the Capehart Housing units. They want to "humanize" the story of the NAVFAC and its mission and people.

If you are interested in participating in this interview process, please let me know.

Best regards,

Jim Donovan

Let me speak as a guy in the pre-commissioning detail at Pt Sur: This is really silly. And having the place on the Register does nothing to pay for maintaining it.
