I have gotten a lot of comments about my IUSS patch that I wear proudly on my ballcap. Most of them have been "what does that mean" and "what service were you in?" or "what was your job?". Boss how about another patch that says "Navy SOSUS, 60th Anniversary" with a big Golden anchor in the middle of it. Have we got the funds? Wasn't it 1953 when it all began? Just a thought. Anyone else have similar experiences with questions?
Hal, Traditionally we recognize the birth of the IUSS as September 1954 when NAVFAC Ramey, Puerto Rico was commissioned followed by NAVFAC Grand Turk in October and San Salvador in December 1954. The IUSS will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the IUSS with a reunion during the third week of September, 2014.
