Received in the mail a couple days ago an update to my DD-214 (a DD-215) with a couple awards. Two Combat Action Ribbon awards and an additional Vietnam award, the Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation (Gallantry Cross Medal with Plam). I was in touch with some old shipmates and my Commanding Officer during a reunion this year. These awards were presented for actions back in Jan/Feb 68 Tet Offensive and I never received mine as I got out of the Navy for a period of time. It only took the Navy 44 plus years, but they came through. So for all these years I guess I was out of uniform during inspections.
Congrat's Ed. Well deserved. We all knew of your service prior to IUSS. I think there might be a few medals or campaign ribbons in store for Nick and I as well. Maybe we should check.... But we need to get the Canadian government to agree that their EM Club in Bermuda was a Hazardous Combat Area in 1974 and 75! I know it was!
I spent 8 weeks in New Londan, Ct in 1961. Met a Conadian Sub Crew training to take over one of our subs. It was hazardous duty at the EM Club and any bar they were in in town. I have seen them fight each other when no one else would fight with them.
Ask for hazardous duty back pay if you spent one night with them drinkin.
