Re: Side Issues to the IUSS Mission - Hopefully of interest
A very funny George Miller story:
A few years ago I Peggy and I were camping at Numbug State Park (Southern Oregon coast). We took an early morning walk on the beach. Off in the distance there were two guys walking in our direction. Eventually we got close enough for visual recognition, and I realized that one of the gentlemen was George Miller. It had been way over 40 years since he was my Watch Officer at Pacific Beach, but he hadn't changed a bit. He was startled when I said "good morning, George", but he soon recognized me as well.
He was carrying a bucket of steamers, and offered to show me how he dug them. Soon I had my own limit of steamers, and he was on his way. I think he lives in that area.

Small world, eh George?
George Miller was already retired when I got to ONI in '98 but his reputation is alive and well with the old geezers here still looking at grams. I'm on that very short list.
Wish I'd of had a chance to work with him. Always was attracted to folks who could make sense of a lofargram.
