UPDATE: IUSS 60th Anniversary celebration, Norfolk, VA, 20 September, 2014
UPDATE: I met with Commodore Scott Rauch, USN on Monday and received approval for the IUSS 60th Anniversary/Reunion celebration to take place in Norfolk, VA on 20 September, 2014. Yesterday I signed the contract with Waterside Marriott Hotel in Norfolk, VA. The Norfolk Ballroom is reserved for 250 guests with expansion capability to 500, 750 or even 1000. I also blocked out 40 rooms at a special discounted rate of $119.00 (same as the 55th). Here's what I know so far:
- No host "Happy Hour" in the Piano Bar on Friday, 19 Sep 2014 from 6 to 11:30 PM.
- Reception outside the Norfolk ballroom on Saturday, 20 Sep 2014 from 6 to 7 PM.
- Dinner in the Norfolk ballroom (first floor) from 7 PM until 11:45 PM.
- I asked the hotel to stock that special "SOSUS" bar if possible. They will try.
- We have already collected $2,640.00 in donations from IUSS CAESAR Alumni Association members for the vent.
I plan to convene a group of local, Hampton Roads area volunteers to meet monthly starting in January 2014 to organize the weekend's events. Plan to go online with advertising, tickets sales, room reservations, etc. in March (6 months out).
Please consider how you might assist. I will canvass everyone later to actually solicit volunteers. Will need folks to organize advertising; PayPal account; Checking account; Webmaster for a special link for ticket sales; programs, flower arrangements; invitations; golf outing; Saturday daytime events; etc.
