Winter May Not Be Arriving Elsewhere But It Has on Mt Washington, NH: Altitude 6288 feet

After a very mild start to the month of October, winter has finally arrived on the summit. On the 22nd, snow began flying atop the Rockpile and we saw light to moderate snow for the next four days. In total, we measured up to 8 inches of new accumulation and also hit our highest winds of the fall at 120 mph. The first major snowstorm of the season hit on the 27th, with 15.3” of new snow by the 28th. The mountain is no stranger to big storms in October, with nearly 80” of snow falling in October 2005 and including 24.3” in a single day.

Howard:

If I lived near Mt Washington, I would be involved with that group; however, I'm stuck in KY at an altitude of 550-feet
where the weather in boring.

Best,

Bruce
