A Finishing Detail to the THRESHER Book Now Just About Complete

ANCILLARY ISSUE

During the SCORPION Court of Inquiry (COI) hearings, the Court was misinformed by an assessment – which they fully accepted - that the bubble-pulse acoustic signal created by the collapse of a submarine pressure-hull might not be detectable because it could be “swallowed” within the pressure-hull and thus not be detected by acoustic sensors (hydrophones) remote from the location of the event.

That assessment is refuted by the dynamics of collapse events: the pressure-hull is destroyed by the collapse phase; hence, there is no structure left intact that could contain (“swallow”) the signal as it expands from the point of maximum compression.

Had the SCORPION COI examined the findings of the THRESHER COI, they would have known that submarine pressure-hull collapse event signals propagate to extreme ranges in the open ocean. They would not have swallowed the “swallowing” conjecture which was the basis for their erroneous conclusion that the acoustic event associated with the loss of SCORPION was produced by the “explosion of a large charge weight external to the pressure-hull,' i.e., they concluded that detectIon of the event meant it could not have been collapse of the pressure-hull because collapse events are “swallowed.”

Note not to be included in the book: it was the erroneous COI conclusion that the acoustic event occurred external to the SCORPION pressure-hull that brought us those conspiracy books about the Soviets sinking SCORPION with a torpedo.
