Passing of JOCS Ray Mahon

Ray served with our IUSS community in Argentia, Newfoundland as the OIC of AFRTS Det One in the early 80's (81-84). Ray's published obituary follows:

Senior Chief Journalist Raymond Harold Mahon, 83, of Indianapolis, IN passed away Tuesday, May 23, 2017. Raymond was born in Ontario, Canada on April 30, 1934 to parents, Richard and Gilberté (Seguin) Mahon. He joined the US Navy in 1956 as a journalist and retired honorably after 28 years as a Senior Chief. He served during in the Vietnam War. Following retirement from the Navy, Raymond and his wife, Anna moved to Tampa, FL for a brief period of time before he returned to work as the Managing Editor for the American Legion Magazine at the headquarters in Indianapolis. He retired from that position in 1996.

Raymond adored his family and especially loved spending time with them on Saturday Night Game Nights. He was an avid collector, collecting everything from stamps, to music and movies, to hockey and baseball cards. He loved sports, especially the Pittsburgh Penguins and the New York Yankees. He was a member of the American Legion Post 495.

Raymond will be lovingly missed by his wife of nearly 57 years, Anna Marie (Gale) Mahon; children: Robert T. Mahon, Carolyn A. Bennett (Douglas Hansen), Richard J. Mahon (Denise A.); grandchildren: Katelyn Schwab (Jordan), James Bennett III (Shannon), Kristen Bennett (Connor Kohl) and Jaclyn G. Mahon; great-granddaughter, Brennyn Kohl; siblings: Noreen Williams (Cecil), Gordon “Gordie” Mahon (Joan) and Madeline Hickling (late, Michael “Mike); and his best friend, John Alfred.

Friends may call from 12pm until 2pm, Saturday, May 27, 2017 at Flanner and Buchanan- Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington St, Indpls, with services to follow at 2pm.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans or the American Diabetes Association.
