Been trying to have my DD 214 updated for the last year and have had no success, including the Navy Archives. I have an appointment to my local state congresswomen at some time in the near future, but that's not the problem. My DD 214 only list 1 Meritorious Unit Commendation from NavFac Midway, Island from 19 Oct 1970 to 23 Dec 1970 and of course the National Defense Ribbon & Medal. During my 2nd duty station at NavFac Adak from 07 Dec 1970 to 12 Nov 1071, from this website and others that I've seen, Adak received an MUC on 1 other date that would have effected me and that was from 10 Jun 1971 to 20 Jul 1971, this date is not on my DD 214. Now this gets weird, I stumbled on a folder that had somehow survived since 1973 that somehow got lost, and in it, it had a letter forwarded from NavFac Adak to my last duty station at Navfac Cape Hatteras after my release from active duty. It was then forwarded to my home in Illinois on 17 May 1973. In the letter it congratulates me for receiving a Meritorious Unit Commendation from NavFac Adak for the time period between 16 Aug 1971 to 09 Oct 1971 and signed by the Chief of Naval Operations which at that time was Admiral Zumwalt Jr. This time frame is no where to be found, 16 Aug 1971 to 09 Oct 1971.
Now, for the tough question, I'm I entitled to have added to my DD 214, only 2 additional MUC's from Adak, or an additional 3rd MUC from Adak as I split duty between NavFac Midway and NavFac Adak during the first time period of the Meritorious Unit Commendation that was from 19 Oct 1970 to 23 Dec 1970.
Any insight to how many MUC's that I have earned before I try and have my DD 214 amended would be greatly appreciated...
