Just when you think they are old enough?

Our oldest daughter was born at the Naval Station Hospital Argentia, NFLD in January 1969.
Wh gave them a package when they left home that included a Canadian Birth Certificate, An American Birth Certificate from the US Military Hospital. When she was 21 if she did not declare to be a Canadian that Canadian BC was Null and Void. Question is where would one write or to call to get a Valid US Birth Certificate. Any help!

Re: Just when you think they are old enough?

Chuck, You should have also received a "Birth Abroad" certificate from the Canadian Embassy back then. Our 4 kids were born in Bermuda, Iceland and Wales. We got both a local and a Birth Abroad certificate for each. - Jim

Re: Just when you think they are old enough?

Certificates were issued by the Department of State of a Report of Birth Abroad

The old address I have for them is: Authentication Officer

Department of State

Washington 25, D.C.

There was a fee for each one --- this was back in 1962

Good luck

Re: Just when you think they are old enough?

Chuck, My oldest just did this about a year ago. She was born at Kef, and her ex lost the original state dept birth certificate. Here is the link: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/international-travel/while-abroad/birth-abroad/replace-amend-CRBA.html

Re: Just when you think they are old enough?

Chuck I has same situation when my daughter was born in Barbados in 1969 and had a State Department birth certificate issued at that time. I would contact State Department as a start. EKD

Re: Just when you think they are old enough?

Chuck,
I had two daughters born in Barbados 1963 & 1964 and when I transferred to SNI in 65 I went to San Francisco and had them both naturalized. At that time they (Naturalization people)were mostly interested in the original hand written birth certificates (that I had) from Barbados. They stated at that time that the Government proof of birth abroad was merely a starting point to track down the original birth certificates needed for naturalization (which they required at that time)etc. Not sure what they would want now. Good Luck, Ed Smock
