I have put this off for some time now but as conditions worsen with my wife's health I felt it is time to let members of the Association know, just because so many of you have known Sue, worked with her, and socialized with her through many years past. Some of us were stationed together several times too and some of us still stay in touch.
Sue has been fighting breast cancer for years now and has been stage 4 since January 2017. She has been through several different treatment regimens and is now in her last available treatment scheme taking oral chemo twice a day now. Her medical management is currently to extend time as long as possible and to make her as comfortable as possible. Although she is terminal, she fights a fight I don't think I could fight. It is truly a testament of her fortitude and strength and desire to share as much time with our children and four grandchildren as possible before her time comes. There is no need to go into the details at this point, as it is what is and we continue to have as many good moments as possible. The last diagnosis / evaluation in April was that we are now down to months. I know several of you have fought this disease as well as myself and some of your loved ones have also. It is a horrible thing to experience and watch. But we stand by her side.
We thank you for your thoughts and please do remember some of those good times if you were fortunate enough to know her during our career in the Navy.
Doug, I was not aware Sue was going through such a tough battle. Chris and I will keep her and your entire family in our prayers and thoughts. Women are tough characters and we can learn much from that.
A fate no person or family should have to endure. Pat's and my prayers are with the entire family. We wish Sue, and the Devers family, as much comfort as possible throughout this terrible ordeal.
Master Chief and Sue, Please know that all of our good thoughts are with you and your family throughout this time. As members of the IUSS community and old NAVFACers yourselves you know how tight we can be. That bond continued throughout our Navy careers and extends into our retirement years as well. We're with you, we remember you and we recall the great times shared with both of you.
This is heart breaking news and a horrible disease. It takes without rhyme or reason. Sue sounds like she has fought the battle hard and I know your family is reeling. The world is probably at a standstill for you all. Be brave for her, hug her and be there for her. I am sending healing thoughts and love your way.
