I have looked back to page 50 trying to find the article about an OTA discovering that he had been at Kef when another ribbon/medal(?) had been awarded. I couldn't find it, but got to thinking that there has to be something out there that list all awards for the different Fac's, right? So I am asking the collective brains out there to help me out here. How do I go about seeing a copy of said awards & years? How do I prove that I was at said Fac when award happened? Is there a real person who can help with this updating, that I can see again & again until everything is resolved? I don't do well with technology interactions. Does the VA have offices that don't deal with medical, but other concerns? Where I can make an appt & spend a day . . . .
It is rather saddening all of us who have passed away. I was looking back to 2014 . . . . . Still looking for Artie Gafford or OTAC Laila Johnson, 2 who disappeared from the System & no one can find.
Thanks for any help. Fond memories to those out there,
Gail (Abie)
I cannot answer most of the questions you asked, however as to the various awards, we have an awards page at http://www.iusscaa.org/awards.htm. On that page you can find awards by Navfac. I do not know if the list is complete but it is a good start for your endeavor.
I remember you from Kef as well as Artie but don't know where she is now. There is a Navy Awards web site (https://awards.navy.mil) but you have to have a CAC to access it. You can go to this site to learn more. http://www.public.navy.mil/bupers-c/career/recordsmanagement/Pages/AwdDecorMedal.aspx
You can find your answer concerning unit awards at this website:
Copy and paste the web site into your web browser. Press the little square at the lower right next to the “magnifying glass” to enlarge the view. The NavFacs start on page 653. All US Navy units are listed alphabetically.
Last year I was looking into this as in Kef I wasn't awarded my Overseas Service ribbon or a second Commendation Ribbon. Not a big deal but was trying to spruce up the shadow box a bit.
Seems that BUPERS has very little records left from our years due to a fire or something. About all they could send me was a Certified Letter that says I was, in fact, on Active Duty from Sept 75 through Sept 79. My records are toast!
They can't even provide me a replacement DD-214. Thank goodness I made about 100 copies years ago...
